Fresh green links

Today I’ve got some photos of the Perth Walk Against Warming that was held last weekend. You can see more at my Flickr account go_greener_oz.

In other news that’s not so great, you probably heard about the Somali pirates who hijacked an oil tanker. A Hong Kong ship transporting wheat was also hijacked. I think this sort of thing will happen more often as shortages of resources become more common.

New WA Premier Colin Barnett has also lifted the ban on uranium mining in this state, and is talking about lifting the ban on genetically-modified crops as well. More profits for corporations, while WA citizens are left to clean up the mess, I suppose!

Finally, I’ve got a link to a really good animation The Solutions Are Waiting. It explains how climate change is happening, and then what options we have for reducing our worldwide carbon emissions. You can click on each of the energy options (solar, fuel switch, etc) and regulation options (ETS, efficiency standards, taxes, etc) to find out more about their pros and cons. It was made in Germany and has been translated into English, so there’s a few spelling mistakes, but overall it’s a really great video.
