World Environment Day 2009

envtday_09Tomorrow is World Environment Day – it’s held every year on the 5th of June by the United Nations Environment Programme. This year’s theme is “Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change”, focusing on how every nation in the world has to do their bit to stop climate change.

There’s a few events on around Australia, and you can see if there’s one near you on the Events Listings (scroll down to find Australia’s section on the list). One of the common events everywhere is that they’re holding premiere screenings of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s film, Home.

You might remember this guy from the giant photography exhibition, Earth From Above, that travelled through Australia last year. His film promises to have more spectacular footage from all over our planet, showing the impacts of our lives here. The screening near me is fully booked so I’ll have to catch it later on.

The World Environment Day website has the usual eco-friendly tips for you to try, but what I thought was more interesting is the Twelve Steps factsheet. It tells you how to make your life carbon-neutral one step at a time, and is very comprehensive. If you’re wondering how to go greener in your life, Twelve Steps is a great list to get you started.
